Our HISTORY
The Frat Games is a dynamic sports league dedicated to promoting and uplifting Divine Nine fraternities and sororities through spirited athletic competition. Our events bring organizations together to compete for bragging rights while fostering unity, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and leadership across the Divine Nine community.
Founded in 1976 here in Greater Los Angeles, The Frat Games has a rich legacy of hosting men's sporting events such as softball and basketball, with regional tournaments held in the Bay Area, Inland Empire, and Las Vegas. Prior to its rebrand, The Frat Games were known as the AFBL, a league that focused on men's sports and was also founded in Southern California decades ago.
Participants and attendees represent both PWIs and HBCUs, with local teams and visitors from across the country gathering each summer—many returning “home” to reconnect and fellowship through sport.
Women’s sports have long been part of our history, with past competitions in basketball, volleyball, Powder Puff football, and softball. To reignite and expand this legacy, The Sorority Games brand was officially launched on August 24, 2022. This initiative celebrates women in sports and provides a dedicated platform to spotlight women’s athletic achievements, events, and community engagement beyond the male-focused arena.
Now entering its 49th year, The Frat Games is proud to honor and celebrate a rich, longstanding legacy of athleticism, unity, and friendship across all Divine Nine organizations. WE ARE THE BLUEPRINT.
